Overview
Founded in Paris in 1893, Galeries Lafayette expanded its global presence with its fifth international flagship store in Istanbul’s Emaar Square Mall, in partnership with Demsa Group. YOO Architecture undertook the 11,000 sqm project as general contractor and completed the fit-out process within 15 months. A Complex Retail Fit-Out Journey Preparation began shortly before construction started on site. Working closely with Demsa Group and Plajer & Franz Studio, the project required detailed coordination across technical teams, suppliers, and more than 120 shop-in-shop luxury brands while Emaar Square Mall was still under construction.

From shop drawings and mock-ups to procurement and on-site execution, every stage was managed with a highly coordinated and solution-oriented approach.

Bringing Parisian Identity to Istanbul Designed by Plajer & Franz Studio, the store concept reinterpreted the iconic architectural language of Galeries Lafayette with a more contemporary expression. One of the project’s defining elements was the 15.7-meter-wide central cupola connecting the three floors of the store. Inspired by the historic dome on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris, the structure was manufactured in Germany, while YOO Interior led the detailing, structural planning and installation process.

The integration of international luxury brands entering the Turkish market for the first time added another layer of complexity to the project. Tailored solutions were developed for each retail space while preserving the overall spatial identity of the store. Completed alongside the ongoing construction of Emaar Square Mall, Galeries Lafayette Istanbul became one of the first finished flagship stores within the development reflecting a meticulous, flexible and detail-driven execution process.
